A Summer of Second Chances

A Summer of Second Chances is the second book by Carol Thomas that I’ve read. The first was was Crazy Over You that I read a few years ago.

Does first love deserve a second chance?

Ava Flynn sometimes feels like the clothes donated to her charity shop have seen more life than her, but ‘maximum dedication for a minimal wage’ is what it takes to keep her mother’s beloved wildlife charity, All Critters Great and Small, running – especially in the village of Dapplebury, where business is certainly not booming.

But when Ava’s first love, Henry Bramlington, returns to the village, suddenly life becomes a little too eventful. Henry escaped Dapplebury many years before, but now he has the power to make or break the village he left behind – All Critters Great and Small included. Can Ava trust the boy who ran away to give both her and her charity a second chance?

My Review of The Summer of Second Chances

Once in a while you read a book that you’ve kind of guessed the ending of, but the story and the characters are so interesting that you want it to go on. This was one of those books.

Set in the charming village of Dappelbury, the book is about the second chance at love that is given to Ava and Henry. They were best friends in their younger days, until they kissed, were seen and Ava was banned by Henry’s mother from visiting their estate! Now, Henry is back to take over the estate from his late father and Ava is trying to keep her late mother’s animal sanctuary afloat by running a charity shop. Will they be able to re-kindle their love? The situation seems to be more complicated than they bargained for.

There are several interesting characters apart from Ava and Henry. Ava’s friends Mary, Gino and good old Flo who gave me several laughs! Even Mrs Bramlington’s character seems to undergo a change as Ava discovers some secrets about her and her parents. Also, I must mention two sweet dogs and their own little love story that was so sweet.

Laughter, friendship, community spirit and love are what make this book an absolute delight to read!
