5 Books About Self Love

As you might have read from my posts at the start of this year, I chose ‘Metta’ as my Word of the Year for 2020 and shared how it meant taking care of myself first. When we talk or hear about self love, our mind, more often than not, jumps into the direction of selfishness. We spend our entire lives giving and caring for others, treating them with compassion, and often end up linking our self worth and self esteem to it all. Most of us forget that treating our own selves with that kind of compassion and care is not just good, but absolutely important. If you too, find yourself unable to offer that love to yourself, here’s a list of 5 books about self love that could get you to develop a more positive and loving relationship with your self.

5 Books About Self Love That You Need To Read Right Now!

The Gifts of Imperfection

This book’s on top of the list for a reason- Brene Brown teaches you to develop courage and treat yourself with love, and at the same time, embrace your imperfections. If you’re struggling with guilt and low self esteem, this book helps you overcome those feelings, and encourages you to start building yourself up from right where you are and become the best version of yourself.

Choosing Me Before We

Choosing Me Before We is an insightful book that follows the author’s own life story overcoming self doubt, dependence, devastation and more. While the book may be centered around relationships, it does offer many valuable lessons for those who need to focus on self love.

Mastering Your Mean Girl

This upbeat and fun book is another star that made it to my list. In this book, life coach Melissa Ambrosini talks about designing your kickass life- the one where you’re healthy, wealthy and full of love and joy. Just a few pages will get you into action mode and inspire you like nothing else. If you’re looking for that one book that’ll help you start taking action to live the life of your dreams, this is it.

How to Stop Feeling Like Sh*t

This book is nothing less than a hidden treasure for anyone who’s feeling self conscious, has that inner voice that constantly puts them down, or is drowning in self criticism and seeks approval for those around them. Within its pages, you’ll find the tools to improve your life in all these areas and more- you’ll start falling in love with yourself and your life!

Madly in Love With ME

Last, but not the least, this book helps you explore self criticism and doubts, push beyond them and rediscover your lost motivation and self esteem. If you feel like your life has been lacking that zest, you definitely need to give this one a read. This book will get you to apply self love in a daring and courageous way and will help you give yourself the permission to treat yourself in a much better way.

I must undertake to love myself and to respect myself as though my very life depends upon self-love and self-respect.

  1. I see nothing wrong in looking through others ideas. It’s worth the effort- even if only one ‘tip’ resonates

So I’ll try my library catalogue Corinne, it’s surprising what overseas recommendations I’ve found there

    Take care

  2. Hi Corinne – I’ve only read ‘The Gifts of Imperfection’ and really enjoyed it – in fact it was instrumental in me finally realizing that perfectionism wasn’t something to to work hard to attain, but rather a stick I was beating myself over the head with! Now I remind myself regularly that being imperfect is just fine and to relax more and just let life happen, rather than trying to control every little aspect of it!

  3. I only recently discovered Brene Brown and loved her “Wilderness” book. I was thinking about getting another of her books and this one looks perfect. Thanks for the recommendation. I agree with you – we need to love ourselves in order to give love to others. Wonderful post!

  4. This is a great list. I used to devour self help books once upon a time, but it’s been a while since I have picked up one. Maybe I will these to my TBR for next year. I am making a list because there are so many books that I want to read and I keep missing out on them. I have decided that in 2021, I am going to schedule not only my reading, but also decide on what I really want to read.
