The A21 Campaign #WalkForFreedom

This year, the day before my birthday in fact, I have the honor (along with thousands of others all over the world) to walk for an amazing cause: The A21 Campaign.

In case you don’t know anything about this organization, let me fill you in on their life-changing work around the globe.

First of all, this is what they stand for: Abolishing Injustice in the 21st Century.

What kind of injustice? Human Trafficking to be exact. This crime is not only heinous but “it is the fastest growing crime in the world.”

Some unbelievable statistics:

This is why we must act. Men, women and children in the United States, Europe, Asia, India, Russia, Greece, and more places are being sold as if they are commodities and used as if they are worthless. `

What is human trafficking?

According to the FBI, it isis a form of human slavery” that    “includes forced labor, domestic servitude, and commercial sex trafficking.” It can include atrocities such as people…being bought, sold, and smuggled like modern-day slaves, often beaten, starved, and forced to work as prostitutes or to take jobs as migrant, domestic, restaurant, or factory workers with little or no pay.”

A21 has been on the frontlines helping countless victims since 2008. The founder of this organization is Christine Caine, a woman with her own story of abuse and neglect to tell. She, along with the A21 team, have “have established 11 field offices, shelters, transition homes, and administrative bases in 10 countries.” They have come up with a strategy called the 4P Paradigm which addresses the vital needs of prevention, protection, prosecution, and partnership in order to successfully help others in the fight against human trafficking.

What can you do? Well, as I said above, I am walking on October 15, 2015 in my city of San Antonio, Texas, to raise awareness for this cause. It’s not just a cause, by the way. It’s a basic human right that people everywhere should be treated with dignity and respect no matter their demographic, race, gender, or economic status. God created each of us in His image- so we are all inherently important, beautiful, and valuable. These men, women, and children need to know that someone is fighting for them…that someone is coming to rescue them…that someone is praying for them to find freedom.

Will you consider giving towards this campaign?

Because of the statistics I’ve listed and the women I’ve met that have been rescued from this horrific life, I have had a burden on my heart for human trafficking victims for many years. I am even finishing up my degree in criminal justice next spring for the purpose of pursuing a career specific to putting a stop to this kind of criminal activity. With that being said, my first big act towards helping the victims of human trafficking is raising $250 in time for The A21 Campaign’s #walkforfreedom on October 15.

Can you help me raise awareness for this event?

One way to do this is to find a walk in your own city and join in the fight! You could also go to my fundraising page and donate any amount to help more victims find hope, rescue, and restoration from the painful circumstances that accompany modern-day slavery.

I’ll leave you with this short video detailing Anna’s life as a human trafficking victim, her story of rescue by The A21 Campaign, and what they are doing to help more victims like her all over the world. No amount of money is too little, no amount of prayer is too much. The more we tell others about this crime, the more people can help.

As 18th century abolitionist William Wilberforce so pointedly said, “You may choose to look the other way but you can never say again that you did not know.”

What can you do to help today?
